UAA freshman Bonner earns GNAC weekly award

PORTLAND, Ore. – Coming off a pair of double-doubles in her first collegiate games, Alaska Anchorage freshman Leah Bonner(Skyview Class of 2014) was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for women basketball by the league office on Monday.

A 5-11 forward from Nampa, Idaho (Skyview HS), Bonner totaled 29 rebounds, 25 points and six assists in a pair of home victories against West Region foes Holy Names and Chaminade, Nov. 14 and 15. In the opener, she grabbed 13 rebounds and dished four assists in a 92-35 blowout of HNU, followed by a 16-rebound performance against the Silverswords on Saturday.

Bonner and the Seawolves are back in action Nov. 20-21 when they host Christian Brothers (Tenn.) at the Alaska Airlines Center. Tip-off is 7 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Friday.

BONNER’S FIRST HONORS: Fr. F Leah Bonner earned the seasons’ first Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week award after registering consecutive double-doubles in her first two collegiate games last week ... last year’s Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year totaled 25 points, 29 rebounds and 6 assists in the wins over Holy Names and Chaminade, including 16 boards on Saturday ... she also committed just 2 turnovers while playing a team-high 55 minutes.
