#1 Weight Room Incentive - "The Program"

Skyview High school has initiated a new training program for our athletes. Our athletic department consisting of Athletic Director Dan McGee and ALL head coaches researched "best practices" for training athletes over the last two months. With the support of principal, Kim Bekkadahl, we have built a new standard program to benefit all athletes.

Why are we doing this?

The goals in developing and training athletes at Skyview High school include:

  * Developing healthy lifestyle habits beyond athletics

  * Reducing injuries

  * Working to gain a competitive advantage

  * Preparing to compete to win

  * Improving self confidence

  *   Learning goal setting

What are we doing?

Research shows that athletes who work out "intensely" two times a week will maintain their strength and athleticism. Athletes who work out "intensely" three times a week will make slight gains and athletes who work out "intensely" four times a week will make significant gains. (4 times a week is optimal)

WE ARE ASKING ALL OF OUR ATHLETES TO WORK OUT FOUR TIMES A WEEK!

This means that athletes who are enrolled in a Varsity Athletics class will need to come in 1 - 2 times extra each week depending on whether they have class on an A or B-day.

Coach Blaser has been hired to open the weight room and work out athletes in the morning from 6:30 - 7:30am Mondays - Thursdays. Research shows that the best gains are made working out in the morning.

The incentive!

I know that this may be tough. I know that 6:30am is early. BUT, we missed the playoffs each of the last two years due to either an injury or just a couple of plays. To get over that hurdle we must train our athletes to perform at their highest level.

So here is what the football program is willing to do.

ANY FOOTBALL PLAYER WHO ATTENDS 65 WORKOUTS OR MORE THROUGH THE COURSE OF 2ND SEMESTER WILL EARN THEIR SPIRIT PACK!

That is a $65 value for putting in the time and energy to become the best they can be.

Each player should make 45 workouts just by attending their own Varsity Athletics class. To make the extra 20 days, a player just needs to workout four times a week by coming in the morning for the extra 1 - 2 sessions. Lifting at the Rec Center, after school, or with a trainer does not count. We need the kids working out TOGETHER intensely.
